Flying Start @ Redruth Have A New Learning Theme!

Flying Start @ Redruth Have A New Learning Theme!

Both departments are focusing on the theme of ‘All About Me’.

We have been learning about ourselves, how we look and what we like and dislike.

We have been learning about our homes in age related activities such as exploring the home corner in the day nursery and learning about different types of homes in the preschool.

Day nursery will be learning through the story of ‘Peace at Last’ and Pre School will be learning through the story of ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’.

We can’t wait to see what we learn about ourselves!

Flying Start @ Redruth Make Yummy Raspberry Bread!

Flying Start @ Redruth Make Yummy Raspberry Bread

This week the Pre-schooler’s weighed, measured and counted their way to perfectly raised raspberry bread.

Using freshly picked raspberries they baked a delicious treat for snack time! They have started to learn about the effect of yeast in the bread maker and so had to carefully add this to the ingredients.

Flying Start @ Redruth At The Beach!

Flying Start @ Redruth At The Beach!

The children have been learning all about the beach this Summer.

We have made our own beach with buckets and spades and even a rock pool…

No trip to the beach would be complete without ice cream, so the children have also made their own ice cream stall with lots of flavours and sprinkles! Yum yum!

This has given lots of opportunities to explore mathematical concepts such shape, size and money, making sure everyone pays for their ice creams!

Flying Start @ Redruth get cooking!

Flying Start @ Redruth get cooking!

Look at the skills we have been developing at nursery!

We were kindly given some rainbow carrots from one of our parents, which they had grown in their garden.

The children looked at the different colours before deciding to bake them in some carrot and banana bread.

They used peelers to peel the carrots themselves and a grater to make them small enough for the bread, remembering how to keep themselves safe when using these sharp tools. Great work guys! We all agreed that it tasted delicious at snack time.

Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrated Swiss National Day!

Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrated Swiss National Day!

The little ones in the day nursery at Flying Start @ Redruth celebrated Swiss National Day!

The children got stuck in mixing up and baking their own bread rolls, adding Swiss Flags to decorate, and eating cheese fondue… yum!

They even had a little party, decorating the table in Swiss style tablecloths, wearing masks and party hats, and listening to Swiss music!

What fun celebrating Swiss National Day & exploring the Swiss culture!

Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrate Their Graduation!

Flying Start @ Redruth Celebrate Their Graduation!

The Preschool children have had a lovely outdoor graduation in the garden, with lots of parents and families attending…

The annual graduation ceremony saw all children wearing a special blue hat and gown whilst receiving graduation certificates. They had a lovely evening, once the ceremony was over the children played in  the garden with friends and family whilst enjoying a barbecue.

We would like to wish the class of 2018-19 all the best on their new adventure to school!

Flying Start @ Redruth See A Caterpillar Turn To A Butterfly!

Flying Start @ Redruth See A Caterpillar Turn To A Butterfly!
The pre-school department at Flying Start @ Redruth had some very exciting news…
One of their caterpillars made the transition into a butterfly!

Watching the whole process has been an amazing real-life learning experience for the children!
They have also been reading the story of ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ to help learn the life cycle, and getting very creative making their own butterfly pictures, and observing the real one closely!

The whole pre-school department cant wait to see the other butterflies emerge from their cocoons so they can see them up close, and then release them all into the environment!

Flying Start @ Redruth Harvest Their Garden Vegetables!

Flying Start @ Redruth Harvest Their Garden Vegetables!
Flying Start @ Redruth have had a very exciting time harvesting their own vegetable crops from the garden!

The children have been busy digging up their potatoes and picking their peas! They all loved grabbing their gardening tools and getting involved!

They were so fascinated looking at the differences in size and counting how many vegetables they had grown…
They cant wait to see what else they can pick over the next few months and are excited to see what they can cook with them!

How exciting to see the whole process through from planting to being on the plate! 🥬🥦🥔🥕

Flying Start @ Redruth Build Water Runs In The Garden!

Flying Start @ Redruth Build Water Runs In The Garden!
What do you get when you mix problem solving and outdoor water play… building huge water runs across the nursery garden!!

Flying Start @ Redruth pre-school have been having great fun, cooling down in the warm weather, and using all of their problem solving skills to build a large water run across the length of the hill in the nursery garden!

They worked together to ensure that it didn’t leak so they could catch the water in the pot at the bottom, made lots of adjustments, then built it even bigger…
…and were delighted to watch it work!

Flying Start @ Redruth Hosted Their Annual Sports Day!

Flying Start @ Redruth Hosted Their Annual Sports Day!

The children have been practising for weeks before, getting to understand the rules of the races and when it was their turn to race…

On the day, they made yummy fruit kebabs for a healthy refuel snack to enjoy after their races!

Before the games began, the whole nursery made sure they warmed up with lots of stretches as well as making sure they all had sun cream and hats on for a day outdoors!

Lots of parents and families came to join watch and cheer, and the children were very brave to do their races in front of such a big crowd!

The races included the potato and spoon race, jumping and running…
…and the day ended with a parent and child race – great fun to see so many grown-ups get involved too!

A lovely afternoon for all – well done to all the children for taking part, the staff team for great organising, and thank you to everyone who came to watch!
