News » Our nurseries give the RNLI lifeguards a Flying Start to the season!!!

Children from Flying Start @ Camborne and Redruth made a special visit to Porthtowan beach to present RNLI lifeguards with a cheque for £2,500. At the start of what looks set to be a busy season, RNLI Lifeguard Manager Dickon Berriman accepted the money on behalf of the charity and thanked all the children involved in raising it over the last year.

In 2010 all of the Flying Start Nurseries adopted the RNLI as their chosen charity and over the course of the year organised various fundraising activities with staff and families. Some of the events included; a pirates dress up day in Redruth, a spots and stripes dress up day, a danceathon in Saltash, where the children danced non-stop throughout the day, family days out to the beach, with sponsored walks, treasure hunts, bring and buy sales, welly throwing and sand castle competitions. The children also made postcards to sell and during evening sessions with the parents served them hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows for a donation.

As part of the fundraising we have been able to encompass much of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the children made visits to the beach where RNLI lifeguards delivered vital beach safety education. They were also lucky enough to be invited to Looe RNLI lifeboat station and find out more about the charity’s lifeboats and how to be safe on the water.’ We would like to thank everyone who joined us in support the RNLI this year.
